Welcome to the Ninth International Symposium on Cough in London

Published: 2015-11-20

This series of International symposia on Cough was started by Professor John Widdicombe in 1999. The Ninth International Symposium on Cough will take place on June 29-30th, July 1st 2016 at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London.

This Symposium will gather clinicians and scientists for a review and discussion of the latest research findings and evolving ideas regarding the importance of cough in clinical disease, the latest thoughts on pathophysiological mechanisms, on current and future treatments of cough. The Symposium will include state-of–the-art lectures, round-table discussions and poster presentations. There will be plenty of opportunities to interact with the international faculty of clinicians and scientists and there is a chance for researchers to present work in the form of posters that will be discussed during plenary sessions. There will be a specially-invited John Widdicombe lecture and a prize for the best poster presentation.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Neuroinflammation and sensory nerves
  • Peripheral and central regulation of urge-to-cough and hypertussivity
  • Chronic cough in several chronic conditions
  • Chronic cough guidelines
  • How to set up a cough clinic
  • Review of current and new treatments
  • Participants will be able to present posters that will be discussed during the plenary session.
